Faculty Promotion Review Regulations of 

College of Electrical and Communication Engineering, Yuan Ze University

Article I These regulations are formulated in accordance with the provisions of the Faculty Promotion Review Guidelines of the University. All matters not expressly provided for herein shall be handled in accordance with the provisions of the Faculty Promotion Review Guidelines of the University.


Article II Application for Promotion

  1. Recommendations for promotion of teachers in the College shall be approved by the College Faculty Review Committee.
  2. Teachers who have met the requirement for the length of service by the University may apply for promotion.
  3. Teachers in the department applying for promotion must submit their applications for promotion to their respective departments (groups) in accordance with the “Faculty Promotion Application External Review Guidelines of Yuan Ze University”.
  4. The application materials submitted by teachers applying for promotion should include:
    1) Seven copies of research materials (according to the requirements of the University Faculty Review Committee).
    2) Two copies of teaching and service materials (according to the requirements of the University Faculty Review Committee).
    3) Two copies of the photocopied doctoral dissertation.


Article III Review Criteria

  1. The examination items include teaching, research, and service.
  2. Percentage of each review item: 30% for teaching, 50% for research, and 20% for counseling and service.
    Research projects are divided into academic research, applied research, and teaching research, and are chosen by the teachers themselves, of which applied research and teaching research should be examined in accordance with the Faculty Promotion Application Review Guidelines of the University.


Article IV Review Methods

  1. The College Faculty Review Committee will review and grade the teachers based on their review comments on teaching, research, counseling and service as evaluated by the Departmental (or equivalent) Faculty Review Committee,, and invite the applicants for promotion to report to the College Faculty Review Committee as necessary.
  2. Teaching, counseling, and service will be scored with reference to the scoring results of the Departmental (or equivalent) Faculty Review Committee after review. For the research section, a secret ballot will be conducted (with the applicant recusing himself/herself), and a vote of two-thirds (inclusive) of the members present and entitled to vote will be approved. The scoring results of the teaching, counseling, and service sections must each meet the requirements of Article 9 of the “Faculty Promotion Application Review Guidelines of Yuan Ze University” in order to be approved. The evaluation results of teaching, research, counseling, and service must be all approved before they are sent to the University Faculty Review Committee for review.
  3. When considering cases of associate professors for promotion to professor, only professors will vote; when considering cases of assistant professors and lecturers applying for promotion, faculty members at or above the rank of associate professor will vote, but those with lower positions are not allowed to review those with higher positions. The applicant will be notified of the result of the evaluation of the College.


Article V Recommendation Process

Upon completion of the review, the College Faculty Review Committee shall forward the recommended candidates and the minutes of the College Faculty Review Committee to the University Faculty Review Committee for review.


Article VI Appeal Procedures

If the applicant feels that the work or review results of the College’s Faculty Review Committee is inappropriate, he/she may submit an appeal according to the Guidelines for Organization and Review of Teacher Grievance Committee of the University.


Article VII These regulations will be approved by the College Faculty Review Committee and the college affairs meeting and submitted to the University Faculty Review Committee for approval before being published and implemented, and the same applies to any amendments.
