Faculty Promotion Review Regulations of 

College of Electrical and Communication Engineering, Yuan Ze University

Article 1: These regulations are established in accordance with the University’s “Regulations for Evaluation of Faculty Promotion” Matters not covered herein shall be handled in accordance with the relevant regulations of the Ministry of Education and the University.


Article 2: Application for Promotion

  1. Faculty promotion must be recommended and approved by the College Faculty Evaluation Committee.
  2. Faculty members who meet the University’s service requirements for promotion are eligible to apply.
  3. Applicants must prepare relevant documents as required by the University’s “Guidelines for External Review of Faculty Promotion” and submit the application to their affiliated department (or equivalent unit).
  4. There is no limit to the number of representative works submitted for review.


Article 3: Review Criteria

  1. The review includes three aspects: teaching, research, and counseling/service.
  2. Applicants may choose to be reviewed under one of the following categories: academic, technological R&D, or teaching practice research.


Article 4: Review Procedure

  1. The College Faculty Evaluation Committee shall evaluate and score the application based on the teaching, research, and counseling/service assessments made by the department (or equivalent) Faculty Evaluation Committee, and may invite the applicant to present their case if necessary.
  2. The teaching and counseling/service components are scored with reference to the department committee’s assessments. The research component is evaluated through anonymous voting (with the applicant recusing). A two-thirds majority of present, voting-eligible committee members is required for approval. Scoring of the teaching and counseling/service components shall follow the University’s “Assessment Guidelines for Teaching and Counseling/Service Performance,” and all component scores must meet the University’s “Faculty Promotion Review Regulations” requirements to pass. Only applicants who pass all components will be forwarded to the University Faculty Evaluation Committee for further review.
  3. For promotion from Associate Professor to Professor, only full Professors may vote. For promotion to Assistant Professor or Lecturer, only Associate Professors and above may vote. No lower-rank faculty may review higher-rank promotions. If the application is rejected, the committee must provide written justification to the applicant.


Article 5: Recommendation Process

Upon completion of the review, the College Faculty Evaluation Committee shall forward the recommended candidates along with meeting minutes to the University Faculty Evaluation Committee for review.


Article 6: Appeal Procedures

Applicants who consider the review process or result inappropriate may file an appeal in accordance with the University’s “Regulations for the Organization and Arbitration of the Faculty Plea and Arbitration Committee”.


Article 7: These regulations shall be implemented upon approval by both the College Faculty Evaluation Committee and the College Affairs Meeting, and final approval by the University Faculty Evaluation Committee. The same procedure applies for any amendments.
